Deer Hunt Starts Monday

Maine’s deer hunting season begins

in earnest on Monday.

The general firearm season for Maine residents got off to a

rain-whipped start on Saturday. Out-of-state license holders can

join Mainers in the woods on Monday.

The soggy weather didn’t deter many hunters. Three-and-a-half

hours after the season’s start, Josh Gross of Hanover registered

the first deer of the day at the Rumford game station: a 168-pound,

4-point buck.

Biologists predict the state’s deer harvest will reach nearly

30,000 this year. The season ends Nov. 24th.
