Maine’s deer hunting season begins
in earnest on Monday.
The general firearm season for Maine residents got off to a
rain-whipped start on Saturday. Out-of-state license holders can
join Mainers in the woods on Monday.
The soggy weather didn’t deter many hunters. Three-and-a-half
hours after the season’s start, Josh Gross of Hanover registered
the first deer of the day at the Rumford game station: a 168-pound,
Biologists predict the state’s deer harvest will reach nearly
30,000 this year. The season ends Nov. 24th.
