Seven years ago, leaders of the Penobscot Nation passed a
resolution urging the team to get rid of the red-faced,
buck-toothed caricature, calling it a demeaning anachronism.
Penobscot leaders never heard back from the Cleveland front
office, and the logo is still a sore point with Donna Loring, the
Penobscot representative to the Maine Legislature.
Loring, a loyal Boston Red Sox fan, says she hopes Cleveland
will someday work with the tribe to draw up a new, respectable
replacement for the Chief Wahoo emblem.
