Nurses’ Contract Approved

On Monday afternoon, the board of trustees at the hospital approved a new three-year contract with the nurses’ union.

Union members approved the proposal on Saturday after two days of voting.

Nurses called off a planned strike when they reached a tentative agreement with the hospital on October 11th.

Saying they were prepared to walk out this week if both sides couldn’t come to terms on contract.

The union, representing about 850 nurses, and the hospital have been in negotiations regarding the contract since July.

The sticking point was a demand by nurses to create a committee giving them more of a say when it comes to patient care. That need was answered to the satisfaction of the nurses in this final agreement.
