Eastern Maine Medical Center’s board of trustees will vote Monday on whether to approve a new three-year contract with the hospital’s unionized nurses.
In a union vote completed Saturday night, the nurses ratified the proposed agreement.
Last Thursday, nurses called off their planned one-day strike… after reaching a tentative agreement with hospital management.
The sides had been negotiating a new contract since late July.
The sticking point for both sides had been wages…and the nurses’ demand for more of a say in the hospital through a ":Professional Practice Committee": that would not include management.
A negotiator for the nurses says as part of the new agreement, management *will* have a role in that committee… but that nurses will now have more of a say than before.
