But first they had to find the flames.
A woman reported seeing smoke on the top of the mountain, but it took crews more than an hour to locate the blaze.
They eventually called in a helicopter from the forest service to direct them to the scene. The chopper made numerous flights, dumping water until the ground crews arrived.
Chief David Crocker says they needed vehicles that could travel over the rugged terrain to get to the fire.
When crews reached the site, they found approximately four acres on fire.
Authorities still aren’t sure what caused the blaze.
