Another day… another step closer to a nurses’ strike at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Negotiations continued this weekend…talks have been underway between nurses and management for two months.
Both sides agree that the major sticking points are wages…and the nurses’ request to form their own Professional Practice Committee to address staffing issues.
If they fail to reach an agreement…the nurses could go on strike for the first time in EMMC history.
A hospital spokesperson tells TV5 that EMMC is committed to reaching an agreement, but if one is not reached, they will be staffed and ready in the event of a strike.
In a vote on Thursday and Friday, 92 percent of nurses voted to authorize a strike, if need be.
The union could file an intent to strike on Monday….by law, they have to give the hospital 10 days notice before walking out.
