A state trooper is on paid administrative leave while the attorney general investigates a Rumford man’s shooting following a standoff with troopers.
State police say 46-year-old Scott White was shot and killed late Saturday afternoon following a seven-hour standoff at his former wife’s home in Rumford.
White was shot as he left the home and was confronted by the state police tactical team. He was pronounced dead at Rumford Hospital.
Spokesman Steve McCausland of the Public Safety Department says White was out on bail on an attempted murder charge involving a recent knife attack on his wife.
He allegedly entered her home at midmorning, when no one was home. Rumford police, believing White was armed with knives, asked for help from the tactical team.
