Blue Angels Perform

More than 100,000 people showed up in Brunswick Sunday for what could be the final Maine performance by
the Blue Angels, the Navy’s precision flying team.
Brunswick Naval Air Station officials say a preliminary estimate
puts Sunday’s attendance for the Great State of Maine Air Show at
between 130,000 and 140,000 people.
That would set a one-day record for the show, which has been held 16 times at the Brunswick base
since 1962.
The star of the show was the Navy’s Blue Angels flight
demonstration team, a squadron of six jets that puts on a
heart-stopping display of precision formation flying and high-speed
maneuvers at speeds of up to 600 miles per hour.
The Brunswick base is slated to close by 2011, so this could be
the last chance for people in Maine to see the Blue Angels perform.
Base officials are hoping for a return show next year, but they
won’t know until November if that’ll happen.
