Maine Soldiers Arrive in Kuwait

Three dozen members of the Maine Army
National Guard have arrived in Kuwait in preparation for a 12-month
deployment to train Iraqi police officers.
The Maine troops are part of a 170-member military police
company based in Rhode Island. While in Iraq, the unit will train
police officers in operating in urban environments, dealing with
civil disturbances and building relationships with their
communities.
The Maine unit got word of its deployment in May and completed
its in-state preparations at the end of June before undergoing two
months of additional training at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
