Affidavit Released in Manslaughter Case

In an affidavit filed in Waldo County Superior Court, Tuesday, Detecive Jason Richards stated the incident started as a physical altercation between Benjamin Preston and his father, Raymond.

A witness says the man was hitting his son with a pipe. The fight then moved outside, where Preston’s soon to be brother-in-law, 32-year old Nikki Thibodeau got involved. He says he tried to drive away and brought Preston’s five year old nephew with him.

That’s when it happened. Thibodeau, who claims he was protecting the boy from injury, from a drive shaft Preston threw at the windshield of his truck, ultimately ran over Preston with his vehicle.

Thibodeau was arrested, without incident, at his Corinth home on Wednesday. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he posted 10-thousand dollars bail.

There’s no word on when he’ll appear in court to be arraigned on a manslaughter charge.
