Reche Caldwell was the
Patriots top receiver last season — but that apparently just
wasn’t good enough.
The team cut Caldwell today, the same day that star offseason
receiving acquisition Randy Moss returned to practice.
Caldwell had 61 receptions for 760 yards last season. But the
team acquired four receivers in the offseason, including Moss.
Moss missed all four preseason games with a hamstring injury and
whether he will play this weekend in the regular-season opener is
still in doubt. He says he’s raring to go.
Former holdout cornerback Asante Samuel also
returned to practice today, a week after signing a $7.79 million
contract. Coach Bill Belichick says his status for the Jets game is
also up in the air.
