Staffers at the new Penobscot Narrows Observatory welcomed their 50,000-th visitor on Sunday.
Since it opened on May 21st of this year, the Observatory has hosted close to 500 people a day!
Officials from the Department of Conservation and Friends of Fort Knox have been carefully monitoring visitation over the past week so they’d know exactly who the 50,000-th visitor was.
The lucky person was 12-year-old Sarah Bunker of Falmouth, Massachusetts.
She was given a commemorative certificate, and of course, a tour.
Observatory staffers say the visitor numbers have been so impressive that they’re on track to *double* their projections for the number of visitors in the first year.
