An employee of the Hannaford supermarket on Central Street arrived at work wednesday morning to find the door locked and employees and customers sitting inside in a circle. That sparked rumors around the area that a hostage situation was underway.
State, county, and local police all arrived on the scene and shut down the entire area. Later in the morning, about 60-customers and employees could be seen leaving the store.
State police then used a bomb sniffing dog to search the area: no bomb was found.
Businesses and banks in several states have received similar threats in recent days.
Including at a Wal*Mart in Rhode Island Tuesday, as well as a grocery store in kansas.
The F.B.I. thinks the calls might be coming from overseas and that the person or people responsible could be hacking into security cameras.
