Matthew Dunlap says the savings from eliminating the election would amount to $275,000, which could be banked in the budget.
Dunlap, a former lawmaker from Old Town, says he found the process to be a waste of tax dollars:
":It would be significant savings of money but whether or not the appropriations committee or the legislature is interested in that much of a change so quickly remains to be unseen.":
All state agencies are tasked with coming up with ways to save money and help fill the ten point one million dollar gap in the state budget.
Lawmakers will meeT thursday, August 29th to tackle the budget once again, and sift through the money saving ideas.
