Brandi Harris of Orrington and her boyfriend, Vince Hatch, are accused of illegally picking up Harris’ son and daughter in Iowa and bringing them back to Maine.
The state of Iowa issued an amber alert for Harris and Hatch yesterday and state police arrested them last night on I95 near Etna, the adults were sent to the Penobscot County Jail and the children into protective custody.
Brandi Harris was reunited with her family late Wednesday afternoon after posting 5-hundred dollars cash bail on a fugitive from justice charge.
Both she and Hatch appeared in District Court in Bangor on that charge to face extradition to Iowa and both are fighting it.
The state of Iowa wants them back on a felony charge of violating a custodial order.
Hatch’s bail was set at 10-thousand dollars cash because of failure to appear on previous charges in Maine, including domestic assault on Harris in 2004.
Harris says her ex-husband, Jeffery Meyer, is also in violation of the custody order, though, because he allegedly moved out-of-state with the kids without proper notice.
Because of that she hasn’t seen her children in more than a month, even though her lawyer says she has the right to care for them every other week.
As of Wednesday night we’re not sure on the status of Harris’ children.
Again, they were taken into custody last night and, in court, Harris’ lawyer said the child’s father was flying into Maine today to pick them up.
Harris’ lawyers says allegations of her boyfriend assaulting her son – which was also posted in the nationwide amber alert – are not true, too.
Both Harris and Hatch are scheduled to appear in court on the fugitive from Justice Charge again, September 11th.
