Fatal Shooting

One man is dead and another is in the hospital following an early morning shooting outside a home in Parsonsfield, in western York County on Saturday.

Authorities say a third man has been questioned by detectives, but no charges have yet been filed.

Authorities say the owner of the mobile home, 28-year-old Jared Nichols, had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend, who left the property on Route 160 and then returned with two men and a second woman.

Spokesman Steve McCausland of the Public Safety Department said the three men got into a confrontation in the front yard at around two a-m. He said that during the fight, a handgun that Nichols was holding went off, hitting the two men.

Twenty-three-year-old Todd Leblanc of Porter was dead at the scene: the other man, 25-year-old Peter Sampietro of Hiram, was being treated at Maine Medical Center for a gunshot wound.

Police said Nichols called police to report the shooting and has undergone questioning.

The investigation is continuing, and there’s been no decision on what charges, if any, he will face.
