Washington County Shooting

CRAWFORD – Joel Wilson was shot in the face at a camp site and driven this morning to a store in Crawford by his younger brother, Matt. The injured man was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Calais then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

The wound is described as non-life threatening. State police and county sheriff’s investigators say the boys were target shooting early this morning when a .22 caliber handgun the older brother was handling went off, striking him in the face.

The boys were visiting their grandparents’ campsite near the Machias River at the time. Officials call the shooting an accident.
