Plum Creek

(AP) – Restore: The North Woods and the Forest Ecology Network said LURC, which serves as the planning and zoning agency for the state’s unorganized areas, lacks the legal authority to approve Plum Creek Timber Company’s concept plan for its land in the Moosehead Lake area.

The groups said LURC can’t approve a plan that will prevent anybody from changing it again during the 30-year life of the plan.

The motion is the latest turn in Plum Creek’s proposal to create Maine’s largest subdivision ever. The company is seeking a zoning change on 420,000 acres in the Moosehead region as part of a 30-year plan to develop nearly a thousand house lots and two resorts.
