50-year-old Michael Nickerson is accused of fatally stabbing 44 year old Charlie Nickerson at the home the two shared on the Brock Road in Searsport.
Nickerson’s trial started in Waldo County Superior Court on Tuesday, and, just six hours into that trial, the state rested its case.
Michael Nickerson stared straight ahead as the state presented testimony he fatally stabbing his younger brother Charlie Nickerson.
Jurors heard testimony from several witnesses, including Dr. Margarite Dewitt, Deputy Chief Medical Examiner. Dewitt says Charlie Nickerson suffered what she observed as three cuts to his left arm and three stab wounds to the chest. It was those wounds that proved fatal.
Michael Nickerson’s Defense Attorney Steve Peterson says it’s not unusual for a case like this to move so fast. He says that’s because both side aren’t arguing over the facts.
Michael Nickerson is expected to take the stand Wednesday morning when the defense begins it’s testimony.
In the meantime he’ll remain at the Waldo Hancock County Jail.
