About 90 Maine Army National Guard soldiers returned to Maine Sunday morning after serving a year in Iraq.
The Security Force Two unit was greeted by hundreds of cheering friends and family members upon its arrival at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Bangor.
The unit is comprised of soldiers form a variety of organizations in the Army National Guard. While stationed in Navistar, Iraq, the soldiers conducted force protection, convoy security and route clearance operations. The unit suffered one fatality — Sergeant Richard Parker of Phillips was killed last month from injuries from a roadside bomb.
