State Police have charged Okie with murder in connection with last week’s death of 19-year-old Alexandra Mills of Wayne.
Okie entered the courthouse telling reporters he didn’t do it. Defense attorney Lenny Sharon says his client appears to still be in a state of shock, but has no further comment on his mental status.
A judge ordered Okie be held without bail at the Kennebec County jail.
The affidavit detailing the state’s case against Okie is not being made public yet. According to Lisa Marchese with the attorney general’s office, ":the investigation is ongoing and public dissemination of certain information could compromise the investigation. I can assure you that as the case continues and goes to trial, all the facts of this case will become public information.":
Okie and Mills were classmates at Kents Hill school in Readfield.
In another twist, the death of Okie’s father, 59-year-old John Okie of Newcastle has been classified a homicide. John Okie was found dead inside his home Monday night.
No one has been charged with that death, and police are not indicating if the two cases are related.
