Rumford Fire

More than 50 firefighters from 7 towns converged on a spectacular fire in rumford early Sunday morning.

The fire leveled nearly an entire block.

Five buildings were destroyed in all…and investigators say the fire may have been set.

Flames broke out around 3 a.m. in a vacant building on Virgin Street and spread quickly, destroying much of the block.

Witnesses said flames shot 35 feet into the air.

Firefighters battled the flames for three hours before bringing the fire under control.

No one was injured, but several people lost their homes.

Investigators are using police dogs to sniff-out accelerants that may have been used to start the fire.
