A new, 42-million dollar cancer center opens its doors in Augusta on Monday.
The Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care is operated by Maine General Health.
It will provide outpatient cancer treatment for up to 160 people a day.
The center’s benefactor, Harold Alfond, suffers from cancer himself.
He plans to attend the opening ceremonies in two weeks.
Alfond donated seven million dollars towards the center.
Patients being treated there will receive chemotherapy and radiation services.
