Folks in Bangor are marking the 23-rd anniversary of the death of Charlie Howard.
Back in 1984, the 23-year-old was beaten, then thrown off the State Street bridge into the Kenduskeag stream…where he drowned.
It was immediately labeled as a hate crime…since Howard was gay.
His three attackers pleaded guilty to manslaughter and all served time in a juvenile facility.
Tonight, friends and relatives gathered for a memorial service on the bridge Saturday night to remember Howard.
