Antique Dealers Voice Concerns

(AP) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that such objects pose a hidden danger because they contain mercury, a toxic heavy metal.

Maine antique dealers call the report overblown, saying it overstates the dangers and poses a threat to their industry.

Dealers were successful last month in getting the Legislature to exempt antiques from Maine’s sweeping 2005 ban on sales of products containing mercury.
