AT LEAST TWO NEXTEL CUP DRIVERS WILL BE RACING IN THE TD BANKNORTH 250 NEXT MONTH. KEVIN LEPAGE HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE FIELD JOINING TERRY LABONTE FOR THE EVENT JULY 22nd AT OXFORD PLAINS SPEEDWAY. LEPAGE HAS RUN IN THE EVENT FOUR TIMES BUT NOT SINCE 1993. JEREMIE WHORFF WON LAST YEARS EVENT. 172 DRIVERS HAVE ALREADY SIGNED UP TO TRY TO QUALIFY FOR THIS YEARS EVENT WHICH IS THE BIGGEST STOCK CAR RACE IN MAINE.

No More Food From Troop Greeters

(AP) – The free food and beverages came to a halt about a month ago after the airport served notice to the area’s volunteer Maine Troop Greeters that it was enforcing a ban against such giveaways.

Maine antique dealers call the report overblown, saying it overstates the dangers and poses a threat to their industry.

Water Extraction Law Enacted

(AP) – The bill addresses many of the concerns of a campaign called H-2-O for Maine, which sought to initiate a referendum on the issue.

Activists worked with companies that draw water for commercial bottling, the Baldacci administration and the Legislature’s Natural Resources Committee in formulating the bill, which awaits Governor John Baldacci’s signature.
