Black Bears like NCAA rule change

Updated 8 years ago

DIVISION ONE BASEBALL PROGRAMS LIKE UMAINES ARE GETTING CLOSER TO HAVING THE SAME FOOTING AS SOME OF THE POWERHOUSE PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY.

THERE IS NEW LEGISLATION IN THE NCAA THAT MANDIDATES THAT THE MINIMUM SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE 33% OF A FULL RIDE.

THE SOUTHERN TIER BRING IN 25 PLAYERS A YEAR AND OFFER THEM A SMALL BOOK MONEY SCHOLARSHIP JUST TO GIVE THEM A CHANCE AT MAKING THE ROSTER.

WITHOUT THOSE SMALL SCHOLARSHIPS TO LURE PLAYERS, SOME OF THE OTHER DIVISION ONE SCHOOLS WILL BE ABLE TO RECRUIT AND DRAW BETTER TALENT.

THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS FOR A DIVISION ONE PROGRAM IS 11.7 AND MAINE HAS ABOUT NINE TO GIVE.

CURRENTLY JUST TWO OR THREE PLAYERS ON THE UMAINE TEAM HAVE LESS THAN A 33% SCHOLARSHIP.
