(AP) – Spokesman Steve McCausland of the state Public Safety Department says Tyler Richard had been staying at his grandfather’s home when the shooting occurred.
The boy went into the road after the shooting, where he was picked up this morning by a passing motorist and taken to the Rumford Hospital, where he was stabilized.
Tyler was later flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland by LifeFlight helicopter. McCausland says initial indications are that his prognosis for survival is good.
A team of state police detectives is in Mexico to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
McCausland says it appears the boy may have been alone at the time of the shooting. The spokesman did not know what kind of gun was used.
