The accident happened at Schoodic Point in Winter Harbor just before two this afternoon.
56 year old Faith Wise of Michigan was visiting the area with her 2 daughters. They told authorities wise was talking on her cell phone trying to catch the sounds of the waves for a friend when she lost her footing on some slippery rocks.
Authorities say she fell into the water and the tide pulled her away from the shore. One of Wise’s daughters jumped into the water to try to rescue her mother but was unsuccessful. Authorities say a Bangor man, Ryan Davis, had to jump in and save the daughter.
The coast guard recovered Wise’s body not far from shore.
