Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial
start of the summer tourism season, but there’ll be no rest or play
for a team of firefighters from the Maine Forest Service.
Twenty-one firefighters are headed for Quebec to battle a
wildlife approximately 350 miles northwest of Quebec City.
Already, ten-thousand acres have been destroyed.
The crew is being sent as part of the agreement between members
of the Northeastern Forest Fire Protection Commission.
The compact covers the New England states and New Brunswick, Quebec and Nova
Scotia in Canada.
