The Medical Examiner’s Office Wednesday positively identified the body recovered near the Aroostook River as that of Tela Hart who was last seen alive in October 2005.
Detective Sergeant Wayne Selfridge of the Presque Isle Police Department says a DNA test confirmed the identity.
After Hart’s disappearance dogs tracked her scent down to the riverbank and it was assumed she went into the water, which was unusually high for that time of year.
Selfridge says now the M.E.’s office will conduct a more thorough autopsy to try to determine a cause of death, which is standard procedure in a case like this.
Hart would have turned 45 years old this past Saturday.
