WABI – The majority of residents in both towns voted Tuesday to build the new facility, which will be used by students from pre-school through eighth grade.
Students from both communities have been bused to the elementary school in Winter Harbor, ever since the Gouldsboro school was shut down three years ago because of mold.
During Tuesday’s vote, residents were asked a pair of questions: the first was whether they wanted to build the school, the second asked if they wanted to accept gifts of up to $100,000 to help pay for the project.
Residents in both towns voted yes to both questions.
The cost of the new school will total around $12,080,000.
Construction should begin early next year.
