WABI – Penn National sent construction workers back to the site after the appropriations committee decided not to tack a tax hike onto that gambling facility.
Despite the rainy weather, it was back to business constructing the future home of Hollywood Slots on Main Street in Bangor.
City leaders looked on as workers were busy pouring concrete, happy to see construction resume.
Bangor Mayor Richard Greene held a special meeting Saturday to discuss the negative effects the work stoppage would have of the state and local economy.
The $131,000,000 project is the largest project in the state of Maine.
Greene and other city leaders hope their share of the revenue from Hollywood Slots will help pay for a new Auditorium and Civic Center.
Meanwhile, Red Webster, Senior Project Manager from Cianbro, says it’s too early to tell whether the work stoppage will delay the project. He says the goal is to not let the customer down, and that means finishing the project by mid-2008.
