Dump Construction Begins

The plan to make electricity out of garbage at a landfill in Hampden is a lot further along.

Officials from Casella Waste Wystems, the Governor’s office, town leaders and construction workers got together for a ground breaking Monday.

The methane gas-to-energy project is scheduled to be online by the end of the year.

Casella’s Don Meagher says the plant will produce enough electricity to power 3000 homes for about 15 years.
