5k for Strays

Pets and their people braved the rain Sunday to raise money for the Animal Orphanage.

The fourteenth annual 5k run/walk for the shelter kicked off Sunday morning at the Old Town/Orono YMCA.

It started out years ago as a small event with only 30 people…now, more than a hundred take part each year, rain or shine!

Folks are welcome to bring their pets along for the run…and all the money raised goes towards helping the strays at the Orphanage.

Trophies were awarded for winners in the different categories.

First place went to 15-year-old Evan Piccirillo of Newburgh, who had a time of 18:34.

The first place pet-owner team was District Attorney Chris Almy and his dog Waldo.
