(AP) Beware of flood-repair scams.
That word from Maine Attorney General Steven Rowe, who advises property owners whose homes were damaged in last week’s coastal storm to be cautious if door-to-door contractors show up asking to make repairs.
Rowe says some contractors are honest and looking to help — but some may be trying to take advantage of homeowners who need to repair damage.
A number of door-to-door contractors have already shown up in Portland wanting to do tree work and roof repairs.
Rowe says homeowners should be especially wary of tree cutters. State law requires arborists to be licensed in Maine — and homeowners should ask to see that license before allowing any work.
