It’s a sure sign of spring in Bangor…the horses were running at bangor raceway Sunday.
Rarness racing began its 124th year Sunday at Bass Park.
Racetrack officials are getting ambitious…they’ve increased the number of race dates this year to 54.
Starting next week, there’ll be racing on Thursday and Triday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
The purses are bigger this year, too, thanks to the revenue from the new Hollywood Slots.
Race Secretary Fred Nichols says the changes are good news for the folks behind the scenes.
96 horses raced today…and there was a big turnout in the stands.
nichols says the weather couldn’t have been better, either…he says this was the nicest opening day in at least 15 years.
