Standoff Ends

A man is in custody after a standoff with police at an Augusta Wal-Mart.

It happened Friday night, shortly before 9 pm.

Police say 42-year-old Philip Urquhart of Windham entered the store armed with two handguns, and began telling customers to get out.

The store was evacuated, and police were called.

A state police tactical team eventually surrounded the man inside the store.

He was arrested a short time later.

Police say no shots were fired, and no one was injured.

They still don’t know Urquhart’s motive for entering the store.

He’s facing charges of terrorizing and creating a police standoff.
