Lewiston Fires

Just as crews cleaned up the scene of one house fire, fire fighters were called to another.

The first one broke out around 3 o’clock Thursday morning at one Dow Avenue.

Frederick Ream, his wife Theresa, and their two daughters made it out of the home safely.

Fire fighters believe this blaze started in the basement.

The other fire in Lewiston occurred at 19 Pettingill Street, it broke out before 10 o’clock Thursday morning.

Investigators say 86-year-old Romeo Huppe smelled smoke coming from his basement. He tried to call 911, but his phone didn’t work. He was eventually able to call for help from a nearby business.

Huppe was treated and released from the hospital for minor injuries, the result of a fall he took while fleeing his home. Mr. Huppe’s residence has extensive smoke and water damage.

Investigators do not believe the two fires are related.
