School officials say a male caller made the threat from a campus phone outside a dorm just after seven thirty Wednesday morning. The caller said there was a bomb on campus, but didn’t say where.
U Maine notified everyone on campus immediately, and called in help from the State Police and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.
Bomb experts quickly determined the threat was not credible.
U Maine says it’ll do whatever it takes to find the person responsible.
UM Dean of Students Dr. Robert Dana says the threat is especially heinous in the wake of the shootings at Virginia Tech earlier this week.
Meanwhile, a candlelight vigil will be held at the U Maine campus Thursday night, for the victim’s of the shooting.
It is scheduled to take place at 8:30 pm along College Avenue.
