Teens Face Civil Rights Suit

The Maine attorney general’s office has

filed a civil right lawsuit against two Bangor teenagers accused of

throwing rocks and yelling racial slurs at a black woman last

The attorney general’s Civil Rights Division says it considers

the incident to be a &quot:hate crime.&quot:

The complaint seeks a court order barring the 17- and

13-year-old boys from having contact with 53-year-old Assata

Sherrill or her family. It also seeks to bar them from repeating

their behavior in the future.

Sherrill told police that the incident happened on March 24th

while she was walking her dog on the Bangor waterfront.

Police previously charged the boys with disorderly conduct.
