Lawsuit Over Calais Bridge

The Army Corps of Engineers is being sued over a bridge that’s being built in Calais.

Environmentalists filed the papers in Federal Court in Bangor Wednesday.

It’s over a third international bridge linking Maine to Canada in Calais.

The plaintiffs want the Army Corps to rescind the permit they granted to the Maine Department of Transportation to build the new bridge.

They also want new traffic and environmental studies done.

The environmentalists claim building the new bridge in Calais will put the Magurrewock Wetlands and Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge at risk.

They also say there’s a cheaper alternative, build the bridge in nearby Baileyville.

Maine D.O.T officials have said that the addition of the new bridge will &quot:not&quot: increase in traffic through the refuge.
