Slots on Indian Island

(WABI) – Penobscot representative Donna Loring says the tribe has lost bingo business since the Hollywood Slots Casino opened in Bangor in November 2005.

Penobscot leaders say gaming money is needed to help fund emergency and social services.

Opponents include the State Gambling Control Board and the city of Bangor, both of which have called for moratoriums on slot machines.

If approved, the Indian Island Slots would be regulated by the Gambling Control Board and 1% of the money from the slot machines would go to the state’s general fund.
