A member of the Maine Legislature died Saturday afternoon in a skiing accident at Sugarloaf U-S-A in Carrabassett Valley.
Representative Abigail Holman of Fayette was participating in an annual fund-raising ski race when she hit a tree. Holman, who was 45, was pronounced dead at Sugarloaf’s first aid clinic.
Sugarloaf spokesman Bill Swain says Holman had just completed a run and was skiing out of the finish corral when the accident happened. No other skier was involved.
Holman, a Republican, was serving her first term in the House representing District 83. She served on the Judiciary Committee, and on the Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee. Holman had also served as legal counsel for Governor John McKernan during his administration.
Governor John Baldacci released a statement in which he called Holman ":a dedicated public servant (who) always worked hard for the people of Maine.":
