(WABI) – Police were called to the home on Minot Avenue around 10:30 Friday morning by people who said a woman had been shot to death in her driveway.
They say a man armed with an assault style rifle pulled the trigger.
That man has since been identified as 42-year old James Peters.
Police cannot risk removing the body of the gunshot victim, 70-year old Margaret Peters, James Peters mother, because doing so would put them at risk of being shot by Peters.
James Peters has refused to surrender and has barricaded himself inside his mothers home.
At one point, late in the afternoon, Peters exchanged gunfire with the state police tactical team, but it’s unknown if anyone was hurt.
The state police say there prepared to stay on the scene for the duration.
