(WABI) – A delegation from the city traveled to Washington D.C. last week to ask for two million dollars in federal funds.
Ellsworth’s wastewater plant is 35 years old and we’re told it has outdated technology.
Officials say the city will outgrow the plant within 5 years and they need help paying for a new one.
They also say a new plant is the city’s top priority and is crucial for economic growth and that the current plant doesn’t meet environmental standards.
City Council has approved a plan to buy land for a new one on the Bayside Road.
Officials say they hope to get some of the money in the Governor’s new bond package.
They hope to hear about the federal money by June.
If all goes well work on the project could start in October.
