Dome Damage

(WABI) – This weekend’s nasty weather caused some damage at the University of Maine.

Saturday afternoon, the Mahaney dome blew out one of its side walls.

A UMaine spokesman says happened when snow and ice buildup caused the dome’s roof to sink in,which changed the air pressure inside the dome and caused a blowout in one of the walls near the door.

Fortunately no one was inside.

The tear is about ten feet by ten feet.

Crews have already started repairing the hole with a plywood patch. They also pumped the remaining snow and water off the roof.

No word yet on when the dome will be open to athletes.
