Maine Marine Death 

Governor John Baldacci says he learnedThursday of the death ofPrivate Rosa. The defense department says Rose died Tuesday from wounds received incombat in the volatile Al Anbar province of Iraq.

Baldacci made condolence calls this morning. He says Rosa’s mother told him that her son was always at the front leading his unit into battle. He was assigned to Third Battalion, Sixth Marine Regiment, Second Marine Division, Second Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.

Rosa was a soccer captain at South Portland High School, where he graduated in 2004. Coach John Shardlow remembered Rosa as a strong person who loved teaching younger children about soccer and was involved in the community.

Flags will be ordered flown at half staff on the day of Rosa’s funeral.
