(WABI) – The 170 soldiers who make up Security Force One arrived at the Army National Guard base in Bangor just after 6:00 to a hero’s welcome. They’ve spent the past year serving in Baghdad and Tallil, Iraq.
Hundreds of family members and friends have waited 15 months for this day, and they smothered the returning soldiers with hugs, kisses and tears.
Two members of the unit were killed last may, Staff Sergeants David Veverka, a UMaine student, and Dale Kelly Jr. of Richmond.
Specialist Chris Frasier was also wounded in an attack.
The soldiers will spend most of tomorrow doing paperwork to wrap up their mission, then they’ll be right back where they deserve to be, with family and friends.
