Scholarships have been established in memory of a Maine National Guard soldier killed in Iraq last May.
Staff Sergeant David Veverka attended the University of Maine, and while here he joined the guard.
To honor his memory, scholarships will be given out to high school seniors in his home state of Pennsylvania, where he grew up.
Veverka’s mother says David would be proud because ":he was big on education":.
Veverka’s unit was providing convoy security around Baghdad when he was killed by a roadside bomb.
